cris - wow! you're a bonanza of recommendations! And I have not seen any of those movies (yes, even Quiet Man--I'm 1/4 Irish and that whole Quiet Man cult thing makes me barfy)!! I'm stoked to check out SB. I'd been thinking farther up, but you know, there are lots of people with money to travel in SB. Some of them must have kitties.

claire - good call. And I can still wear my white shoes and purse that way.

Erik - No! And I always meant to. I'll put it on the good cry list. And meanwhile, i'm adding Phantom of the Paradise to my Sat am hangover list. Why did I not think of that!?!

Here's my stab at #13. I can't vouch for "reasonably priced" but I do know that the rates were much cheaper before Memorial Day weekend. My parents rented a house from this company which was in Ventura (perhaps not far enough North for you) for May '04, and it was pretty sweet. Ocean view, 2nd house in from the beach.

1. Flicks, all good for sickliness and certain forms of hangover (the form that leaves one barely capable of opening the refrigerator can only tolerate televised golf tournaments):

Mostly Martha because it ends so nicely and is so soothing before it ends.
Eulogy because it's witty, but manages to do all the work for you.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang for ... well, see above.
Le Bossu (I forget what it is in English) because it's enchanted fairy-taley stuff but done the French way, so it's well acted and has an old, wonderful story, too.
The Quiet Man.
Invincible. One of my new favorite recommendations. I'm turning into a big fat Mark Wahlberg fan.

2. My friend who owns a cool little lingerie shop, Fancy Pants, gave me a gel bra. It comes in at $35 and, if my experience is anything to judge by, is an instant success. Comfort, I don't know, but it's very natural looking and VERY fun in an ooh-ahh-can you BELIEVE it? kind of way.

13. and 14. Santa Barbara.

re: 13: There are always sublets or house-sitting gigs available. Craigslist has an SB category.

re: 14: I can not say it enough. There is NO better place to go consignment/thrift shopping. (Although I might be lying since I never did it before I came here.) We love our fabulously wealthy, wherever they are, but we particularly like them here where they surrender so easily to the need to buy and then, evidently, can not bring themselves to wear more than twice. Yay.

Erik - I love Down By Law (even the opening titles are fantastic), so I'm excited to check out the others. Thank you!!!

Bon - Impressive list of parking sites, girl.

I'm sorry to hear about Dea. I know how that out-of-it thing can go.

And I love the swearing, too. So lazy, but so fun.

Thanks, everyone, for being so nice!

5. A map/list/page of L.A. streets with street cleaning schedule so I know when I’m going to have to add 20 minutes for parking.

This one is tough. Here are a few.

San Diego: http://www.sandiego.gov/street-div/sweepschedule.shtml
Ventura: http://www.cityofventura.net/depts/pub_works/maintenance/st_sweep_map.asp
West Hollywood: http://www.weho.org/index.cfm/fuseaction/detailgroup/navid/67/cid/74/
Thousand Oaks: http://toaks-web.civicasoft.com/city_hall/depts/public_works/street/default.asp
Inglewood: http://www.cityofinglewood.org/depts/pw/divisions/public_services/maintenance/sewers_n_street_sweeping.asp
Palmdale: http://www.cityofpalmdale.org/cals/street_sweeping.asp
Cerritos: http://www.ci.cerritos.ca.us/citygov/publicworks/sweepmap.html
Simi Valley: http://www.simivalley.org/html/street_maintenance.htm
Alameda: http://www.ci.alameda.ca.us/publicworks/streetsweep.html
Culver City: http://www.culvercity.org/citygov/publicworks/str_maint.html
Brentwood: http://www.ci.brentwood.ca.us/department/publicworks/streets/streetsweep.cfm

18. A source for nice scented candles at a reasonable price.

These are my favorite: http://candle-lite.com/ (Try the caramel creme. Holy crap, it's yummy.) And you can buy them at any Gelsons, Pavillions, or Vons.

I also know that Dea Vise makes some really yummy soy-based candles and, while they're pricier, they go to a good cause (her recovery from a serious injury). http://www.linkedin.com/pub/0/90/373

20. Some input from my fine readers on what you like about this site, what you don’t so much and what other things—topics, features, blog doodads—you’d find helpful.

Eh, I'm not going to be much help here. I love it when you're YOU. Prickly, soft, chewy, crunchy, over-the-top, below-the-radar, and all of the other geeky, brilliant, emotional, food-related, epiphany-filled, or just plain ol' silly stuff you encompass. Oh, and I love it when you swear. A lot.

Okay, first of all, I was so excited to learn earlier this week that you're a fan of Phantom of the Paradise, and here you are asking for movie suggestions and so I want to suggest some equally brilliant films, but everything I think of I'm like "but I'm SURE colleen's seen THAT."

Anyway, I'm gonna start with Roberto Benigni. I figure everyone's seen Life Is Beautiful (which polarizes people, but I love), but his earlier, even more comedic films aren't quite as well known, and they're gems. A few years ago, they had a Benigni retrospective at that independant theater near the Flynt building (um, I can't think of the name of that theater, is it a Laemmle's?) and I went to the whole retrospective--many of his earlier movies aren't available on video or DVD in the US of A--so some of these might be ones you'll have to search out.

1. Il Monstro (The Monster) -- ridiculous sex farce, very funny, very sweet. Definitely available on DVD. I think this one would be nice for a rainy Saturday afternoon, except you should note that it's subtitles and therefore might not be good when you're hungover (if being hungover means you would not be up for reading)

2. Down By Law -- my favorite Jarmusch film. Starring Benigni, Tom Waits, and John Lurie. Again, not good if you have a hangover--kinda slow--but it builds and will grow on you. Benigni is especially charming.

3. Il Piccolo Diavolo (The Little Devil) -- funny as shit. However, unfortunately, NOT available in the US, but if you ever notice that it's playing anywhere, GOOOO. It stars Walter Matthau as a priest who's called in to perform an exorcism on this girl and Benigni as the devil that he exorcises out of this girl. Good for any occasion. Seriously. You'll love it.

Okay, that's all for now, but I'll think of more.

OK, now that's weird. Didn't notice the Varion info vanished. Cut and color is less than 80 dollar. (The less-than did me in, I think. Bad HTML! Bad!)

They're on 804 Hilldale Ave, West Hollywood CA 90069. Phone is (310) 289-1392

BTW: Cmd-Ret, Option-Ret or just plain Return all allow the rename. And here's two more keyboard shortcuts that are really handy: Cmd-UpArrow goes to parent folder, Cmd-DownArrow opens an item. (Nice for navigating through folders)

Annika - totally cute template. And I say do up #1 on your own blog. Let's make it a meme! "Movies for the Hungover of a Saturday afternoon!" "Movies to Cut Toenails By!" "Movies to Keep You Company Whilst Working!" And I'll look into Goo. Thanks!

Robert - you see what I'm sayin'? Wonky-ass template! No, seriously, I love fernando, but this thing is looking a little tatty in places. Like the sidebar, every time I add something other than a link list. WHAT UP WIDDAT?!?

Oh, and OPTION + RETURN did it! And no, I didn't know about navigating there b/c, as my friend, Justin Tanner, likes to say, I is 'tardedated. Bah! I am suddenly gleeful!

Please to share Varion's info. You are the Man, sir.
