Nerd Love, Day 19: 10 reasons nerds LOVE the Apple Store at the Grove

apple store at the grove

1. Conveniently located to Los Angeles’ fashionable East side.
2. Get to watch Vegas-style timed musical fountain whilst walking to/from personal transpo device.
3. Better porn than Hustler store.
4. Retro-calming, Holly Golightly-esque, “Nothing bad could ever happen to you in a place like this” design vibe.
5. No rats.
6. Close proximity to wide variety of foods legal on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet.
7. New! Urban equivalent of Wal-Mart greeter at front door!
8. New! Validated parking with ANY purchase!
9. New! Apple staff can ring up (credit card) purchases via handy/scary device around neck.
10. New! Apple staff can print out receipt on spot or email it to your .mac account.

Which leaves only one question: what is keeping you PC boneheads from drinking the Kool-Aid and getting down with the program?

Silly PC users…

I am a PC user rather than a Mac user because I am a PC nerd. Duh.

Embrace all nerds equally! PC Nerds and Mac nerds! Doctor Who nerds and Star Trek nerds! Theater nerds and film nerds! Nerddom unite!

And don’t forget the dorks, either.

David Markland February 12, 2007 at 1:41 pm

Because us PC users put the quality of the product ahead of the packaging.
;)

Corey – I {heart} all nerds, even the PC variety. But I must draw the line at theater nerds. Clearly, they are too crazy to embrace.

David – You keep telling yourself that. It helps to ease the pain, I’m sure…

Colleen, one reason would be price? I just bought a Compaq for a quarter of the price of the lowest priced Mac. Still love my Mac at work, just can’t afford it at home. Side note to David, Vista is SLOW compared to OS X!

BF February 13, 2007 at 11:11 am

Using Tim’s logic I should drive a chevy cavalier instead of my saab. Of course, I also own several macs and PCs. In terms of quality? If I had to choose, I’d go with a mac in a saab over a PC in a chevy any day.

Cost? We’re all going to be dead soon enough. Life’s too short to waste on Windows.

Deb February 13, 2007 at 3:17 pm

amen BF!

although i’ve given up on trying to convert PC users. it’s not always about price. something working and working well, something that’s easy to use works for me. (i’ve got a mac that’s eight years old that still runs better than some new PC’s i’m forced to deal with at work.)

besides, why wait for some companies (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) to copy innovation? why not just get the original and get the new stuff early?

design is great. design is cool. i love the design aspect. but it totally comes second.

btw, i love the holly golightly comparison! it’s perfect!

all the best!

In my best Hammy-from-Over-The-Hedge voice, wringing my hands anxiously…

but i like the pee-see

As it happens, I like putting all the pieces together from random crap I find at -insert mega computer store of your choice here-.

Tim, Tim, Tim – but what are you teaching the *children*?

BF – Be nice to Tim. We must lead by example.

Deb – I don’t know that design does come second–to me, it’s an integral part of the Mac platform, and I’m not talking OS.

Larry – No, you like science projects. That is something I don’t exactly understand, but it is different.

Tim February 15, 2007 at 10:27 pm

Thanks, Colleen. I’m actually teaching the children to not grow up in front of the TV like I did. And to be nicer to people than I am. the computer is secondary!
