Peter - Interesting, and an excellent point. I sort of wish the discussion about all of this was phrased in terms of finding "peace" or "contentment" or "balance." Because you're right: we'll be happy, we'll be sad; those are markers at one end or another of a spectrum.

I keep coming back to the buddhist way of looking at it: detachment. Which doesn't mean detaching from other people or the world (as I understand it) but about releasing attachment to outcome.

Even that gets tricky, though, because I'm a believer of holding positive intentions and goals. Arrrrgh! This kind of stuff is a little complex for addressing in blog posts and comments. Fun trying, though.

Happiness according to me is to live a secluded life.. away from the society.. just me and my loneliness.. But if you look at it logically, happiness is just the opposite of sadness.. this mean, you can never experience happiness unless you experience sadness.. the sadness helps you understand happiness.. sad but this is the irony of life.

Rob - Agreed. In fact, there's a lively discussion thread on the original post about the definition of happiness. I'm also not in favor of chasing a fleeting state, but understand the value of shorthand.

Then again, language quickly gets devalued with too much shorthand, so it's a delicate balance.

But sharing, I'm all for!

Though Happiness is only temporary and ultimately it is goodness that we should strive for. I still think it is a great project and something I will share with my readers. Thanks for bringing it to my attention

The more I think about it, the more I believe my definition of happiness is: peace of mind...

...because I have so little of it.
