Yep, thought about that, too. Wishin' I had a copy of that vid, to show my stepdaughter what can happen when prison mentality takes hold, in all of the prisons where women find themselves, how subtle it all can be, and corrosive. Oh how I wish you were close enough to meet for coffee again!

Petraea (and by extension Communicatrix): I watched 'em both (natch) but decided the tight black frocks weren't tight enough on Addicted to be the cause of any angst at all.

MEB - You know, I thought of you while writing this. Partly b/c we've both grappled with these issues and talked so much about it, and partly b/c I remember those vids from the days of our working together at the prison...er, agency. And I even remember a certain hot someone (hint: not me) in a parody Spuds MacKenzie vid :-)

"Your tits and ass are not a retirement plan." Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. Tell me you can't see that on a t-shirt. For me it all crystalizes with the shoes. I see those pointy little numbers with that impossible arch and I literally ache in sympathy--and of course remember my younger years, struggling w/why it was necessary for my feet to hurt in order to be considered beautiful. Still, my hope for the next generation of women (and the ones after that) is that they recapture sovereignty over their bodies and dominion over their sexuality. And I say recapture because, as we all know, that WAS the natural order of things in our goddess universe before power-over took over. Our gorgeous, sexy successors will see the return of this--in fact, I'm betting they insist on it.

Jeremy - I'd forgotten there was a series! I was thinking of the one Petrea linked to, just above.

And no, they won't. No one listens to anyone or anything until she's ready. But it's important to keep putting it out there, for the ones who are ready.

Also, to have a sense of humor about it. I get a little soapbox-y with this topic, b/c I love my ladies. Ah, well. Something to work on.

Charles - Thank you! Let's hope it resonates with her. And if she wants to talk to someone who's been there, done that...

jenny - Cha-cha as performance art I have no problem with. Did you not read the part about drag? I suspect you just come here and skim my long-ass posts. Skimmer.

Petrea - I love your hair! I am so vain, I want to skip the growing-in phase and jump right to full-on white, like my mom. Of course, she had cancer, which is how she found out she was white. Would also rather skip the cancer part, if possible.

Thanks for the link. Takes me back. Oof...

Jeremy's link may be the hotter of the two, but this is the one that started it all:

I went through it, too--that thing you went through on your 26th-27th birthday. But I finally released the desperation (because that's what it is), dispensed with all that make-up and stopped dying my hair (it was gray under there!). And when I did, that's when all of a sudden I had more dates than I could handle. Yup. You betcha. Also my acting career took off and I quit my day job. Soon I took my pick and married the man of my dreams. Who knew Cinderella had gray hair a career?

You are aware, of course, that the TequilaCon uniform is going to be cha-cha, right? Except for me, because I'm there to work. And because I don't own anything cha-cha-esque. Just letting you know.

So well stated. I may just have to give this one to my 17-year-old daughter.
