the communicatrix, elsewhere
First, let’s get the old-school stuff out of the way.
1. If you want to email me (I love email!), send to:
- colleen {at} communicatrix {dot} com
I read ALL of my email (I love email!) and answer much of it (a few slip through the cracks, and I don’t honor hate mail with a reply.)
2. If you want to write me an actual note (I really love actual notes!!), send it to:
- 137 N. Larchmont Blvd. #604, Los Angeles, CA 90004
3. If you want to talk to me on the phone:
Good luck.
As my dearest friends and loved ones will tell you, I suck at the phone. If you are just one of those people who likes leaving other people voicemails rather than emails, you can leave one at (323) 843-4395. It’s a Google Voice number, and I do check it occasionally (mainly because the automagic voice-to-text transcriptions are notoriously hi-larious.)
But if you really want to get in touch, go with the email. I’m great with the email.
L.A.-local? Here’s how to meet me in person!
I spent a bunch of time in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. in the fall of 2008 and fell in love with an indie biz networking group called Biznik. Co-founders Dan McComb & Lara Feltin have done a terrific job of realizing their vision of a social media hub that supports an active real-life community of independent business folk.
I’ve been working to get the L.A. real-life component off the ground in 2009. I host a no-host (i.e. no charge, but you pay for food & beverages) meetup at Jerry’s Deli in the Marina once monthly, usually the second or third Wednesday of every month.
Sign up for a free membership here, and you’ll be emailed about the next event.
Next, for the online stuff.
I have a lot of content scattered across the Internet. Basically, I’m “communicatrix” ubiquitously, meaning if you sign onto a service and want to connect with me, check that first.
Places I write regularly:
- Here! (duh), where I (usually) post essays on Monday, something “useful” like a book review on Tuesday, an ostensibly useful-type video on Wednesday, a crazy-ass “poem” on Thursday and a roundup of the best links I’ve posted elsewhere on Friday, for sane people who don’t follow my many media channels.
- communicatrix | focuses, a monthly, in-depth look at some aspect of buffing out your communication skills so you can get the word of you out there more efficiently. Back issues go up on this site, but there can be a 1 – 4 month lag, depending upon how busy I get, so if you want the content fresh, subscribe.
- LACasting.com, where I write a monthly column about marketing for actors, the content you can almost certainly apply to your own field of endeavor. The newsletter goes out to members, but you can read the issues here as I put them up.
Interested in the nuts & bolts of marketing a small business?
For one entire year, I worked consciously at marketing my business every day and blogged (and podcasted) about it every week. You can read the entire year’s worth of entries at The Virgo Guide to Marketing.
General Social Media Outposts (in order of usage)
- Facebook (lots of chat, commentary, and interaction; oddly, it’s become my favorite hang)
- delicious (bookmarking site where I put stuff of a more technical nature)
- Tumblr (compendium of quotes, vids, etc. I find interesting, sometimes with commentary)
- Twitter (please read my Twitter policy first!)
- StumbleUpon (content I think is worth a look, usually more of a literary/artistic/humorous nature)
Arty-farty Social Media Outposts
- YouTube (I make the occasional video, post a few more, bookmark the best of others’)
- Flickr (photos & drawings, infrequently updated)
- LibraryThing (find books I think are worth reading)
- Last.fm (laugh at my strange “musical” “taste”)
- blip.fm (see above)
- Listography (lists of stuff to discover, to get you thinking)
- my top-20 all-time favorite movies (just because)
If you’re an IMDb member, I have also rated a ton of movies there, plus grouped them into interesting lists. (Clearly, I need to get out more.)
Social Media Aggregators (for the lazy)
- FriendFeed (collects most of the things above and a few below into one handy stream)
- Lijit (search my content across the web from one spot)
Business-y Stuff (for the business-y)
- LinkedIn (online resume)
- Biznik (their tag: “Business networking that doesn’t suck.” And join, here.)
If you are a designer, you’ll find me at…
- kernspiracy (kickass mailing list & occasional local meatspace for designers run by Spencer Cross)
Other Content You May or May Not Be Into
- the AskLizRyan Yahoo! group (occasionally high signal-to-noise ratio, but also a pretty awesome resource for information on a wide array of topics)
- my now long-ago advice to the lovelorn (that was an interesting project, boy howdy)
Finally, for questions about:
- anything I’ve written on this blog, or my newsletter, or elsewhere
- anything you’d like for me to address in the above
for the love of all that’s holy, email me!
Thank you for visiting the mother ship of the Colleen Wainwright empire, communicatrix-dot-com. I hope you enjoy your stay, and come back again and again!
